Horror Sequence - Group Task

Within our group, we were given a task to create a horror movie sequence using a range of different shots. We were also given the task to aim the short film at 15 year olds. I feel our task went quite well, however, there were some inaccuracies. For example there was less than 12 shots and the sequence was only around 30 seconds long; this was purely because we thought we had enough usable footage, however, some of it was not. Also, the storyline could also be put across clearer for the audience because the ending doesn't make sense.

The first shot is a mid shot of the girl opening the door. This clip shows her entering a dark room. This added a few enigma codes, which were: who is she and what is she doing? It then cuts to a close up of the girl walking through the door, and the door closing behind her. This shows that she is being enclosed within the environment. The next shot is a pan which follows the girl walking through the corridor. We also see someone standing in one of the doorways, which adds a feeling of tension and suspense. There is also the use of non-diegetic eerie music, which helps to put the audience on edge. We then cut to a mid-long shot of the girl picking up a piece of paper off the floor and looking at it. With this shot we can see, through the use of the mise en scene, that the girl is in an abandoned part of a school.

The next shot is an over the shoulder shot of the girl looking around the room, which is a slow motion shot. This gives us more time to view the room and to see that she shouldn't be there. In the next shot, we see the girl standing through the use of a mid shot. We then hear the diegetic sound of a bang. This makes the girl turn her head around quickly. This suggests that something is coming for her. The next shot shows an extreme close up of the girls eyes, looking from left to right. This is also another slow motion shot, which show that she is being cautious and weary about who could be there.

We then cut a clip of what looks like security footage, in which we see the girl walking towards the exit, and the mystery person attacking her. You can see by the shadows body language that they are trying to strangle the girl. The last shot is a tracking shot of the  mystery person, almost skipping away. This suggests that they are happy that they have attacked the girl. However, this leaves an enigma code for the audience, which is: why did they attack the girl and is she dead? Also, throughout the film, we can see that there is the use of low key lighting and a black and white effect.

Overall, I feel that the film was quite short, however it did have the conventions of a horror film. This gave suspense for the audience. This short film, was suitable for the target audience because there was no dialogue or violence/gore.
